The WHAT
STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events that showcase the skills and achievements of FCCLA members.
Students can compete individually or as part of a team in areas that reflect both leadership development and career preparation.Â
Through these events, students apply classroom learning to real-world situations.Â
Events range from entrepreneurship and culinary arts to early childhood education, fashion design, and community service.
The HOW
Students select from over 30 event categories based on their personal interests or career goals.Â
Each event challenges participants to identify an issue related to families, careers, or communities, research it, and create a project that leads to meaningful action or change.
Competitors prepare presentations and materials that demonstrate their process and outcomes, which are evaluated by industry and education professionals at regional, state, and national levels.
The WHY
STAR Events empower students to turn learning into leadership.
By participating, students develop critical life and career skills such as public speaking, project management, teamwork, and professionalism.Â
These experiences build confidence, strengthen connections between education and future careers, and inspire students to make a positive difference in their schools and communities.
Not sure what STAR Event is the best fit for you? Or maybe you’re already competing but thinking about trying something new next year. This quiz is designed to help you figure out which events match your interests, strengths, and goals. Whether you want to practice hands on culinary, design, advocate, or showcase your chapter’s work, there’s a STAR Event for you.
After you finish the quiz, you’ll receive an email with the events that match your tailored needs and suggestions for where to get started.
Competing in Entrepreneurship during my freshman year, I created a meaningful business plan and learned how passionate I truly was about entrepreneurship and making a difference around me.
Entering my sophomore year, I decided to compete in Career Investigation to further learn about the actual career of an entrepreneur. Through this event, I was able to make connections with various other entrepreneurs and business executive officers.
If anyone asked me if they should compete in an FCCLA STAR Event, I would tell them absolutely, no matter who they were.
Competing in STAR Events throughout high school has brought me so many life and career skills, and created a sense of accomplishment, achievement, and happiness in my life in many ways.
